Reached Willoughby, theseat of a Methodist College, nineteen miles east ofCleveland, just before sundown, where I was temptedto stay over night, knowing that to ride farther wouldbe gloomy and uninteresting, but in my eagerness toreach the Forest City, towards which I had lookedfor several days, I pressed forward. As there was no hotel at Wickliffe, I passed throughthe little hamlet of that name and secured lodgingsat the farm house of Thomas Lloyd, an old settler ofLake County, and a very large land-owner.
