Lakeshore sunbathing in Hamburg's Stadtpark in Northern Germany
14% of Hamburg's municipal area are covered with parks, and they are very popular among the citizens. The Stadtpark is Hamburg's largest park, and although there are many beautiful parks in Hamburg (Planten und Blomen, Jenischpark or the Alsterpark), the Stadtpark is especially worth a visit. There are several sports fields, tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool located in the park, and in summer, countless visitors seize the opportunity to catch some sun. The planetarium, built in a former water tower, is also located in the park - it offers both insights into astronomic proportions and a beautiful view over the city from the balustrade in a height of 60 meters. The planetarium will be closed until ca. August 2003 for renovation. Until then, the park itself will be the only attraction.
