Annual catalogue of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Mississippi . thed gearing, levers, connectingrods, etc., as used in ordinary machine parts. Electrical engineering, treating of the elementary principlesgoverning dynamos, transformers, motors, secondary batteries, lamps, and the installation of plants, is taught by text-book andrecitations; during the second and third terms it is acompaniedby the necessary laboratory work, including the practical operationof the college lighting plant. The facilities for the practical study of electricity are beingsteadily increased by the addition of electrical machinery andapparatus. For the purposes of instruction, the department hascharge of the college lighting plant, which consists of the mostmodern and advanced machinery procurable. Its capacity is aboutsix hundred lights. The dynamo is directly connected to a highspeed coin pound engine furnished with steam of 150 pounds pres-sure from a Babcock & Wilcox water tube boiler. The dynamo sup-plief a curreni for enclosed arc lamps, incandescent lamps, and a. Mississippi A. and M. College 35 ten-horse-power motor, which runs the wood shop. The electricallaboratory has a ten-light wood arc machine, with necessaryswitch boards and instruments, and two smaller 110 volt directcurrent generators and small apparatus, which will enable studentsto make many desirable tests. It is expected that this equipmentwill be further increased by the addition of alternating currentmachinery and apparatus. Mechanical laboratory, three terms, two and one-half hours, and electrical laboratory, in the third term, permits the studentssystematically to take turns in practically firing the boilers and run-ning the electric light plant, air compressers, pumps, and engine, with which the power house is provided. Two new 125-horse-powerboilers are to me added immediately, which, together with thosealready in use, will make a total of nearly 400-horse-power, partof which will be used for heating and
