These materials are also available at the extension office in the Coos county courthouse should you happen to be in Coquille. November and December are, of course, the months when it is recommended that bog soil tests be taken. Test results are most meaningful at this time because they are keyed to after harvest nutrient levels. Moreover, since there is no rush at the soils laboratory in CorvaUis, samples can be analyzed much more quickly at this time of year. With rainfall so heavy lately, correct drying of bog soil samples will be more important than ever. Samples should be air-dried at room temperature for several days before being bagged and sent to Corvallis. Simply spread out the entire sample over a piece of waxed paper and allow it time to pretty much dry out. Samples don't have to be bone dry, however. Requirements are that samples must be dry enough so that they don't break through the bags in shipping or mold if held a 4 couple of days after arrival at the laboratory. One thing you should never do with wet soil samples, however, is try to dry them in an oven. Not only is this
