Castle Geyser

Of all the geysers in Yellowstone National Park, Castle Geyser has the most interesting and very likely the largest cone formation. And it's easy to see where the name came: the geyser's castle-shaped cone. See that smooth spot on the front of the geyser? That is there, unfortunately, due to vandalism. I'm not sure if it still happens now (probably not), but at one time in the past park, visitors use to chip off a bit of the cone and take it home for a souvenir. Unfortunately, the famous Old Faithful Geyser has had a similar thing happen to it. Vandalism such as this has completely obliterated 2 of the 3 petrified trees there in the park and has to a great extent damaged the 3rd. These beautiful natural wonders are unlike anything else on earth, once destroyed they cannot be restored. Please help preserve these natural wonders by following all the park rules if you ever visit Yellowstone National Park. Hope you enjoy the photo!
