Hudinaga (1942) reported that the dissipated cortical rod material is retained as a jelly coat until the second cleavage in P. japonicus. In ova of P. aztecus and P. setiferus, however, introduction of colloidal carbon to a slide of reacted eggs reveals no zone of jelly material after the formation of the hatching.
