This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Philae probe landing site. This area on the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is the primary landing site chosen for the Rosetta spacecraft's Philae lander. The site is on the smaller of the comet's two lobes. The European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft was launched in March 2004 on a 10 year mission to reach this comet. It entered orbit on 6 August 2014 at a point in the comet's orbit beyond the orbit of Mars. The first mission designed to land on a comet, it is carrying instruments and a lander to map and study the comet's surface and core. Mosaic image obtained on 14 September 2014 from a distance of 30 kilometres by Rosetta's OSIRIS narrow-angle camera.
