Machrie Moor stone circles, Arran, Scotland, UK: four (there may have been a fifth stone at the SW) granite boulders of Circle IV looking NE to the surviving sandstone pillars of Circle III (L), Circle II (R) & the peak of Goat Fell hidden in cloud (centre). Part of a complex of Bronze Age ritual sites on the moor around Moss Farm. The circles appear have been sited on the natural amphitheatre of the moor with reference to prominent features on the NE skyline, particularly a prominent notch which is intersected by the midsummer solstice rising sun.
