MODEL RELEASED. Telemedicine. A radiologist exam- ines a CT (computed tomography) brain scan sent by phone to her computer screen, while talking on the phone. Thanks to modern telecommunications she can study the brains of patients who may be thousands of miles away, and give an instant diagnosis. CT scans are made by a special X-ray machine that rotates around the body, scanning it with multiple X-ray beams at different angles. The results are combined by computer into a 3-D reconstruction of the body, allowing the doctor to \move around\" the patient on screen.
