Spinosaurus dinosaur. Computer artwork of a Spinosaurus dinosaur standing on a rocky coast. This was the longest carnivorous dinosaur, reaching a length of up to 16 metres. It had a long, narrow head, similar to that of a crocodile, and it is thought to have fed on fish. The sail on its back may have been used for temperature regulation or in mating displays. Spinosaurus inhabited what is now northern Africa between 95 and 80 million years ago, in the late (upper) Cretaceous period.
