Lanius ludovicianus excubitorides (Swains.).White-rumped Shrike, Summer resident, and abundant at elevations below 8,000feet. Although closely related to the Northern Shrike, thisvariety is a much smaller bird and depends to a considerableextent upon insects for its food. To be sure it kills birds, butnot to the extent of the larger species. Just what percentageof the food of the White-rumped Shrike is insects I am un-,able to state, but they in part, at least, make up for the dam-age they do to desirable bird life by eating injurious insects. This variety is so common that nearly every collector inWyoming has reported it and has something to say of itshabits. The data is too voluminous to be included here. VIREOS. 624. Virep olivaceu
