The Red Fort in Agra was commenced in 1565 as a military establishment but was partially converted to a palace by his grandson, Shah Jahan, who completed it in 1571. Mussamman Burji or Saman Burji which lies within the Red Fort was where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son, Aurangzeb., for seven years until his death.
