Spain, Aragon, Province of Huesca: tower of the church of the engulfed village of Mediano, in the middle of the reservoir (embalse) of Mediano. Covering an area of 1,714 hectares, this dam-lake drowned 5 villages to power a hydroelectric plant commissioned in 1973. This dam is the first of three on the Cinca River. Today, the lake is almost dry, following Spain's long months of drought. The bell tower is now accessible in a lunar desert environment.
