Plein, The Hague, The Netherlands. Thursday 18th September, 2020. Iranian author Atti Bahadori, fled her native land of Iran to The Netherlands, during the Islamic Revolution. In 2002 her daughter was taken back to Iran by her husband. Two years later she kidnaped her daughter and returned her back to Holland. Amongst her other books ‘Under the same sky’ tells that story and it became a best seller. Today, was day-three of her hunger strike, she had planned to spend the nights but this was denied and permission was only granted for a daylight protest. Late this afternoon she was permitted a one-to-one meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, she intends to bring to his attention and hopefully his government, the human rights atrocities being committed by the Iranian political system. She will decide over the weekend weather or not to continue her hunger strike into next week. Her tent is also a makeshift memorial to one of Iran’s most recent victims: Olympic champion wrestler 27-year old Navid Afkari also a political prisoner. He was executed early on the morning of Saturday 12th of September 2020. Despite a global campaign calling on Iran to revoke his execution. Navid Afkari sent messages from prison stating that he was tortured into confessing the murder by stabbing of a security guard, the incident was alleged to have occurred during an anti-government protest in 2018.
