This young open cluster of about 50 stars is around 78 million years old. It is dominated by brilliant blue stars, but also contains a few red giant stars. M47 is around 1600 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Puppis. This image was obtained with the Wide Field Imager (WFI) camera on the MPG/ESO telescope at ESO's La Silla Observatory in Chile. Image released in December 2014.
