Jurassic fossil bearing cliffs. Crumbling rock strata in part of the cliffs between Lyme Regis and Charmouth, Dorset. Known as The Spittles and Black Ven, these cliffs were the site of major fossil finds in the 18th and early 19th centuries, contributing to the founding of palaeontology. Two such major finds were the first find of a pleisosaur in 1824 and the first find of a pterosaur in 1828, both discovered by Mary Anning. The view is looking east towards Charmouth.
