In wooded places in the north it may be the subspecies garambae Balsac & Ver- schuren (1968). Karyotypes of luna from neighboring Burundi showed the lowest number 2n = 36, FN = 56 among African Crocidura and were thought to show unexpected connection with Sylvisorex limaris (Maddalena 1990). In Rwenzori NP, mostly in hn- peratus ICymbopogon grassland, it amounted to a third of all shrews found (Hoffmann thesis, in litt. 1999). 90.
