The melting equipment consists ofthree furnaces, 17 inches inside diameterfor No. 35 to 50 crucibles; one furnace mediately in the event of a brokencrucible. The furnaces are also arrang-ed so that forced draft may be appliedat any time should it be necessary. Adjoining the furnace is the core ovenwhich is provided with the necessaryflues and dampers so that gases fromthe brass furnace may be used to drythe cores. This oven is provided witha roof supported on steel framing, andis fitted with adjustable side racks forcores; also provided with a sheet steelswing Side Elevation. 20 inches inside diameter for No. 60 to90 crucibles. These furnaces are ar-ranged for natural draft with a pit infront covered by an iron grating. Theyare constructed with steel shells andheavy cast iron tops made in two piecesto allow for expansion. The bases are Longitudinal Section. Along one half of the foundry andspanning over furnaces is located anoverhead traveling crane, one ton ca-pacity, about 18 feet span. This craneis especially convenient for lifting potsfrom the furnace and handling flasksand crucibles for heavy castings. The, ;5 runway being extended the full lengthof the building allows the crane totravel in the cleaning room as required. The cleaning room is provided withthe necessary chippers benches, tumbler, grinder, band saw for cutting spruesand magnetic separator. These ma-chines are all driven from line shaft, which may be operated by an electricmotor. Adjoining the cleaning room is theoffice, which is near-by so as to be con-venient to overs
