The red tiled medieval rooftops of the old town of Bad Wimpfen, view from the Blue Tower with the Red Tower in the background

Originally settled in pre-Roman times, Bad Wimpfen was fortified by the Staufer emperors, in particular Frederick Barbarosa, in the 12th century. Over time the original walls were reinforced and towers raised. The town played a role in the Thirty Years War. The half timbered houses and buildings of the town date back to the 13th century, hundreds dating from the medieval period. It was not damaged during World War II
