Double-flowered Hellebore set against a black background.

Hellebores are widely grown in the northern hemisphere gardens where they provide wonderfull spring/early summer blossoms. There are many cultivars hellebores. What appear to be petals are in fact sepals which surround a ring of small cup-shaped nectaries which are actually petals shaped to hold nectar. We grow several varieties in our garden in the Scottish Highlands.
