. The launderer. A practical treatise on the management and the operation of a steam laundry . sufficient to consume everyparticle of the fuel and a portion of it becomes incandescent. The incandescent state is necessary, as it isfrom the incandescent particles that the light is givenoff. It is therefore necessary in a heating burner tomix air with the gas just before it reaches the burner,in order to insure complete combustion, and the deri-vation of the maximum possible amount of heat fromthe fuel. This is not so necessary when gasoline gasis used, as there is already a considerable amount of airmixed with it when it reaches the burner. When gasis burned with free access of air, it is only necessaryto so arrange the burner that air may enter and mixwith the gas before it reaches the point of combustion—the flame. When the gas is burned without freeaccess of air, as is the case in the roll of an ironer,it is necessary to supply air to mix with the gas beforereaching the flame, and also to surround the burner byan air-pipe, through which the air is supplied underpressure. 94.
