Electronic waste collected for recycling
Modern TVs, computers, monitors, VCRs and other electronic equipment use many materials and substances that are hazardous to the environment. Current California laws prohibit electronic waste being disposed in landfills. To encourage and facilitate proper recycling, the City of Irvine is holding a yearly electronic waste (e-waste) collection event at the City's Civic Center, accepting unwanted electronics free of charge from local residents and businesses. In 2007 27,000 pounds of electronic waste was diverted from entering the landfills. Photo March 2008
