Model ‘T’ Ford EL 1776, pictured in July 2013 at the 50th Anniversary Woodcote Steam and Vintage Transport Rally at Woodcote, Oxfordshire, England, UK, is painted - correctly - in gleaming bright red rather than black, the colour that Henry Ford is wrongly believed to have stipulated for all Model T vehicles his company mass-produced. Henry’s ‘so long as it is black’ rule in fact only applied to Fords built between 1913 and 1925. This superbly restored and maintained example was built in 1909.
Woodcote, Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom: Model ‘T’ Ford EL 1776, pictured in July 2013 at the 50th Anniversary Woodcote Steam and Vintage Transport Rally, is painted - quite correctly - in gleaming bright red rather than black, the colour that Henry Ford is often (wrongly) believed to have stipulated for all the Model T automobiles his company mass-produced. As the proud owner explains on a wooden notice leaning against the radiator, Ford’s famous quotation: "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants, so long as it is black", only applied to vehicles built between 1913 and 1925. This superbly restored and maintained veteran example of the marque was built in 1909 - when customers were still allowed to choose whatever colour they wanted.
