To be effective against heavy artillery they mustbe at least 2 yards wide on top and constructed if possible of undis-turbed earth. They should be spaced from 5 to 8 yards apart and 652 MILITARY TRAINING should project at least 1 yard beyond the face of the rear wall ofthe trench.
