One of the most difficult thingsis to decide in what branch of serviceone will be of most value to his cast my lot with the Medical Department of the Army. The main object ofthis department is to send every soldierto the firing line a military effectivefree from disease. The significance ofsuch a branch in the army was notrealized until after the awful disasterof 1898 on this very training may remember that it was duringthe Spanish-American War that moresoldiers died of typhoid fever than werekilled in actual warfare.
