Two tourists walk towards a cave that was once a Pathet Lao refuge on the Plain of Jars northern Laos

The stone jars can be found at several sites on the Plain of Jars in Xieng Khuang province near Phonsavan This site is near the airport The jars vary greatly in size some have had lids Some suggestions put them at 2 000 years old but scientific dating has not been possible Claims in the past have had them used for human remains storing rice and fermenting wine But nothing has been found to prove or even strongly suggest their use
