Members of the especially violent Dirlewanger Brigade in action in Warsaw during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. This unit of the SS was led by Oskar Dirlewanger and was composed of convicted criminals. Even among the SS he was considered as particularly barbaric. The brigade assisted in the execuion of around 100,000 Polish residents of Warsaw, most notably in the appalling violence inflicted in the Wola Massacre.
