Air Force Master Sgt. Pennie J. Brawley, a C-130 Hercules aircraft loadmaster with the 746th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, counts halal meals inside a C-130 in flight over Iraq during a humanitarian airdrop Aug. 14, 2014. The humanitarian aid included bottled water and food that was delivered to displaced citizens in the vicinity of Sinjar, Iraq. Brawley deployed from the 145th Airlift Squadron, North Carolina Air National Guard. President Barack Obama authorized humanitarian aid deliveries to Iraq as well as targeted airstrikes to protect personnel from extremists known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. Central Command directed the operations.
