Sir William Temple, 1628 - 1699, English statesman, with King Charles II to whom he was an advisor. After falling out with the King he retired from politics and devoted himself to gardening and essay writing. After a print by J. Parker from the work by James Stothard originally featured in Robert Bowyer's Historic Gallery, published between 1793 and 1806.
