Ptolemy's 'Almagest', 1515 edition. The 'Almagest' is a compendium authored by the 2nd century AD Greek astronomer Ptolemy. It summarised the learning of the Ancient Greeks, and was the basis of much of the astronomy and science of medieval Europe until the time of Copernicus (1543). This title page to an edition produced in Venice, Italy, in 1515 has had its publication dates altered to 1465. The text is in Latin. The first line is the title and author name. The rest of the text describes the book's contents, and gives the printing date and publisher details (Peter Liechtenstein). This edition uses Gherardo da Cremona's translation from Arabic.
