View SW of Ballowall Barrow, Cornwall, England, UK, a complex Bronze Age round cairn containing burial cists & an entrance grave. Excavated & confusingly reconstructed by Cornish antiquarian W. C. Borlase in 1878-80. The present walls & circular passage were created by Borlase to give access to excavated features within the central cairn. He discovered 5 cists along with Bronze Age pottery & burnt bone within the central rubble mound retained by two concentric drystone walls. Two further cists were attached to a stone platform surrounding the mound from which an entrance grave faces SW out to sea. It is uncertain whether the entrance grave was a free-standing Neolithic structure incorported into the outer platform or a late feature in the complicated Bronze Age building sequence.
