This press image shows a 1919 performance of the record breaking CHU CHIN CHOW. Oscar Asche (from Geelong, Victoria) and his wife became managers of London's Adelphi Theatre in 1904 & His Majesty's Theatre in 1907. He toured America in 1902 and his native Australia in 1909–1910. He was also a noted athlete and cricketer. Asche most famously wrote & produced Chu Chin Chow, starring himself & his wife, which ran for an unprecedented 2,238 performances, from 31 August 1916 to 22 July 1921. During the run, among other projects, he directed the hit London production of The Maid of the Mountains.
