Our Lady of Guadalupe also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe is Mexico's patron saint and in Oaxaca she is celebrated with a nine day prayer series (novena) ending on 12 December. When children dress up as Juan Diego, the peasant to whom she first appeaed in the sixteenth century (1531).
