It appears from history that the citi-zens of Ekron had deposed King Padi, who had beenloyal to Assyria, and had sent him in chains to Heze-kiah for safe-keeping. Having accepted the charge ofthe deposed king, Hezekiah had thereby become partyto the rebellion of the Ekronites against their Assyrianmaster.
