This image may not be used to state or imply NOAO endorsement of any company or product True-colour computer-enhanced optical image of \The Antennae\" (NGC 4038 & 4039), a pair of interacting or colliding galaxies lying approximately 60 million light years away in the constellation of Corvus. Each galaxy has a tail (stretching well beyond the area seen in this image) of tidally-removed stars & gas, giving the pair their popular name. The red and yellow regions mark sites of new star formation triggered by the interaction; star formation is particularly active in the massive dust cloud between the galaxies."
