Julie Greenwood, setting a Guinness World Record in the 2018 London Marathon, as the fastest marathon, dressed as a fairy tale character (4:24:07). ach year, Guinness World Records partners with the Virgin Money London Marathon, giving participants in the world’s greatest marathon the chance to become official record holders. A team of Guinness World Records adjudicators are on hand to check costumes, verify times and confirm successful runners as official GWR title holders, earning them a place in the annual GWR book released in September. A huge 91 world records were attempted by a total of 99 runners at this year's marathon, the highest number ever. The most visual and creative costumes and categories included fastest marathon dressed as a toilet (male), fastest marathon on stilts and fastest marathon dressed as an emoji (female). Despite the unseasonably hot weather, a total of 34 new Guinness World Records were set, the fastest of which was by Rob Pope who crossed the Finish Line in 2:36:28 dressed as Forrest Gump. All applicants approved for on-the-day ratification will be moved to the Green Start by London Marathon Events Ltd.
