Fruit medium to large, roundish oblate conic, yellow, shaded andstriped with red, sparsely covered with gray dots. Stalk slender, ofmedium length, inserted in a deep, rather narrow cavity. Calyx closed,set in a broad, rather shallow basin. Flesh whitish, tender, juicy, crisp,pleasant, mild subacid. Good. December, March. Smokehouse. Millcreek Vandevere. Red Vandevere. English Yandevere. Origin, Lancaster Co., Pa., near Millcreek, grew on the farm of Gibbons, near his smokehouse, hence its name. An old variety and popular in Pennsylvania.
