He was married in Boston, Mass.,September 4, 1832, to Phoebe Fox-croft I>yon, a native of Bakersficld,Mass., who died December 17, children were born to them:Elisha, born July 6, 1831, died inArizona: Mary, born July 24, 1833,resides in Windsor, Vt.; GeorgeBennedict, born June 14, 1836, diedNovember 22, Surgeon Edward Elisha Phelps. REV. JOHN CHARLES PHILLIPS, A. B. John C. Phillips, son of Hon. John Phillips, first major of Boston, andSally (Walley) Phillips, was bt)rn in Boston, Mass., August 15, 1807, anddied there, November 5, 1878. He attended the schools of his city and entered the Academy in 1821,graduating in 1824. He then entered Harvard College and graduated A. 1826. He prepared for the Congregational ministry at the AndoverTheological Seminary, graduating in 1832. He was ordained, December18, 1833, and served as pastor of the First church in Weymouth, Mass.,1833-37 and the Methuen, , church, from 1839 until 1860, when owingto failing health he was forced to give u[) the ministry. He made his homein Boston from 1860, until his death. He was married, December 24, 1835, to Harriet, daughter uf FrancisWelch of Boston, Mass. Seven children were born to them: Margaret Welch,born July 12,
