At the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 (part of the Napoleonic Wars), British Admiral Horatio Nelson was aboard the vessel Victory, whose Captain was Thomas Hardy. This 1917 illustration shows Nelson falling to the deck after being struck by a bullet that entered his left shoulder, pierced his lung, and settled at the bottom of his spine. He died soon after. The British did win the battle.
