This image shows Lt. Hargan participating in body armor and helmet tests during World War I. Various weapons were fired at him, including a .45 caliber pistol at 15 yards, resulting in inch to 1-inch dents. Additionally, a service rifle fired at 100 yards and a Hotchkiss machine gun with copper projectiles fired at 200 yards created perforations. The test also included French and American hand grenades. The photograph was taken on April 27, 1918, at the 1st Corps School in Gondrecourt, France. The image was released by the censor on January 7, 1919.
