VADM Franchetti and CDR Cordero salute in honor of the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Ponte Dirillo and Operation Husky. The event marked the 75th anniversary of Operation Husky and the beginning of the Italian Campaign. It was the largest amphibious operation of World War II in terms of the size of the landing zone and number of divisions put ashore on that first day. This pulled troops from the Western Front and directly contributed to the success of D-Day in Normandy.
