Further praise of Lindeman Island was given by tourists who returned from Lindeman Island by the ketch Tonka on Friday evening. Among those who returned were Mrs. F. E. Shortt, Misses A. and K. Sheldon, Edith Webster, and S. Frederiksen, of Brisbane. It is one of the most glorious of places, said Miss A. Sheldon. Miss Sheldon, who has been to Cairns previously, and also has travelled Europe, said she did not believe Lindeman could be surpassed for scenery. We do not say it is better than on the other side, she observed, but it is quite equal in its own way. Absolutely everything possible has been done to give us a good time. We have seen eveything there is to be seen, chimed in the rest of the party - all except a dugong! As for Lindeman, we like everything connected with it. The weather, too, could not have been better. Each of the party succeeded in landing a mackerel - and consequently each claimed to be a deep-sea fisherman. Aquaplaning 80yrds. behind the Tonka was a delightful novelty, and turtle-chasing was thrilling. The donkey rides also were responsible for much pleasure. The various corals were a source of keen interest, and the grass huts were a great idea, creating a piquant atmosphere to the setting. Whitsunday Island, too, was highly attractive, and the tourists declared they would like to have stayed another fortnight. Beautiful yellow orchids also were collected from a neighbouring isle, and some were taken back to Brisbane. From the Daily Mercury, Monday 15 August 1932.
