Bay of Marseilles
Bay of Marseilles : Chateau d'If Built between1524 and1531 under king François 1st to protect the city of Marseille(s). 200 soldiers and 22 pieces of artillery stay there Charles 5th was defeated there in 1536 as he tries to invade the city. The Chateau d'If was a jail for the opponents to monarchy. 3 towers,the highest is named "Saint Christophe" 22 meters (72 feets) high,"Saint Jaume" and "Maugouvert". Famous after the novel of Alexandre Dumas "Le Comte de Monte-Cristo" published in 1844,Edmond Dantès was supposed to escape the fortress.
