MODEL RELEASED. Epidural anaesthetic. Anaesthetist injecting a local anaesthetic into a patient's lower back. The local anaesthetic will numb the area so that a catheter can be inserted to administer the epidural anaesthetic. The epidural anaesthetic will be injected into the epidural space, the space between the dura mater (the outer membrane covering the spine) and the spinal cord.
