Following the success of Charles Edward Stuart (1720-1788), Stuart claimant to the throne of Great Britain, aka "The Young Pretender" or "Bonnie Prince Charlie", taking Edinburgh and Carlisle and earching Derby, his council decided to return to Scotland, and the Jacobites marched north once more, winning the Battle of Falkirk Muir, Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland _pictured). They were later pursued by King George II's son, the Duke of Cumberland, who caught up with them at the Battle of Culloden on 16 April 1746.
