Mealy plum aphids. Mealy plum aphids (Hyalopterus pruni) feeding on a common reed leaf (Phragmites australis). Aphids feed on plant juices and are a major pest. Their numbers are usually controlled by insecticide, but biological controls such as ladybirds are used also.
