It opened in 1872 and today has more than two million works of art ranging from the treasures of classical antiquity (Greece and Cyprus) to punctures, photographs and sculptures of all time. They are exposed, for example, Maestas works of Picasso, Rembrandt, Raphael, El Greco and Velázquez, among many others. There are several rooms divided into artists and continents like Asia, Africa room, Oceania, Middle East and Egypt.
