The business was estab-lished in 1866, and the house has gaineda trade, which extends to all sections ofthe United States. The specialty ofChris. Xanders house is the manufactureof native wines, which are the purestobtainable in the Capitals The importedvarieties of claret, including the choicestChateau wines, have been introduced forfamily use, and for supplying dinnerand evening parties. The finest brandsof cognac are imported directly in casksto supply this branch of the trade. Histrade in native wines has gained such di-mensions that Mr. Xander controls atpresent the grape crops of thirty-threefarms, located in Virginia and Xander buys his grapes on the vines, has them forwarded to his place of
