There is slight scoliosis involving the lumbarvertebrae. In Klein wiichters case there was also rachitis. The iliacbono of the affected side is raised and projects farther back than itsfellow. The sciatic notch is lessened in consequence of the ischium Fig. Obliquely-distorted Pelvis, or Naegeles Pelvis. being pressed upward and inward, and the ischial tuberosity and spineapproach the sacrum. The absence or rudimentary condition of the sacral wing upon theaffected side finds its most rational explanation in the absence of ossi-fication nuclei, and therefore the deformity may have an intra-uterineorigin: this was the view favored, though not exclusively adopted, byNaeorele. But it is also held that the deformity niay result frompathological conditions of the joint in infancy or childhood ; in otherwords, inflammation lies at the beginning of the change. The theoryof an inflammatory origin in some cases after birth does not excludethat possibly this inflammation may begin in intra-uterine life; if theinflammation occurs after being born, its cause may be simply pressureof the trunk, which will be greater upon that side corresponding withan imperfectly developed sacrum. It is impossible for disease of oneof the sacr
