ROOT OF HERBA- CEOUS P^ONIA. HlEBJkClOUe PlOHMe. For a brilliant display of bloom during May and June, there is nothing that will equal the Pceonias, many of which are so vivid and so profuse in bloom, that they fairly dazzle the eye. The Paeonia has long been cultivated, and almost as long a popular flower, yet in no class of plants has there been greater improvements made in re- cent years. We now have them of the purest white to almost black, with all shades of pink and red imaginable, and with abundance of delihgtful fragrance. Many, too, have flowers of immense size, most intensely double, and produced in a profusion scarcely equaled by any other plant. Instead of offering an array of names and colors that would be bewilder- ing to many, we offer the following small list selected from out of over a hundred and fifty varieties of the best new and old sorts, and includes none but those possessing some distinguish- ing feature and of rare excellence. They are all double, except when otlierwise noted. Prices, named varieties, 25 cents each; $2 per 10. Without names but with colors (white, pink, red purple, etc.), 15 cents each ; $1 per 10. Ambrose Verschaffelt (Purplish crimson, velvety, very full; good dark). Claptoniana (Creamy white, inside petals straw ; fine). CoMTE DE Pakis (Bright rose, full and fine). Delachii (Dark crimson, very double, rich foliage ; one of the best dark). DucHESSE DE Nemorus (Outer petals violet, centre fringed, lilac, large, showy, sweet). Grandiflora Carnea Plena (Outer petals delicate blush, inside fringed, pale yellow, very large, sweet, fine. HuMEi (Purplish rose, very large, double, full, showy, late ; one of the best).
